Sustainably fishing in alaska

Sea to Shore Seafood Co is dedicated to providing sustainable Alaskan seafood.

Sustainability

Alaska’s fisheries are not managed to maximize catch rates. Sustainable fisheries are not only our main core value they are written into the State of Alaska’s constitution. When the state was formed in 1959 it was written into the constitution that all fisheries within the state will be managed in a sustainable manner. They are managed to ensure the ongoing health of the entire ecosystem, for generations to come.

The amount of seafood we catch is only the tip of the iceberg. Maintaining a healthy ecosystem in which fish can live and feed is another. This includes: omitting plastic waste that enters our oceans, ensuring rivers and streams are healthy for spawning, holding other countries accountable for illegal fishing practices that indiscriminately catch everything in a vessel’s path, and advocating for green energy to help ease the warming oceans.

There are things that we can all do to monitor and speak out against practices that negatively impact the world’s fisheries. Ask where--and how--your fish is caught. Choose wild-caught over farmed. Look for more sustainable options. Be willing to pay a little more to the fishing families and companies who are doing the right things. Everyone can do their part to help ensure the world’s fisheries for future generations.
