Our Roots

Sea to Shore Seafood Co. was founded by Pete and Chelsea Keutmann with a mission to combine their passion for fishing and sustainability that creates and supports a healthy fishery and healthy marine ecosystem.

Why? It’s in their blood. Really.

Chelsea began her fishing career at the tender age of three days old. A fourth generation fisherman, and a third generation female fisherman, from Petersburg, Alaska, Chelsea literally grew up on a fishing boat. Commercial fishing isn’t just a job, it’s truly a way of life. At 18 years old, and after many years as a deckhand, Chelsea worked her way to captain of her own vessel and crew.

Born and raised in Santa Cruz, California, Pete grew up in, on and around the water. His love of the ocean was sparked at a young age and he has always been inspired to live and work around the water. Pete’s passion for the ocean eventually led him to the Coast Guard, where he served five years before finding his way to commercial fishing utilizing his electrical, welding and fabrication skills.

Together, Pete and Chelsea bought an old 38’ boat, the F/V Eric. Built in 1964, the two of them completely rebuilt the back deck of the vessel. This allowed them to customize the deck to their specifications and fishing style, and the following year Sea to Shore Seafood Co. was born.

Today, Pete and Chelsea continue to fish together and share the duties of captain, but you’ll more often find Pete at the helm these days, while Chelsea focuses more on the sales and operations side of their business. With an eye toward sustainability and respect for the resource, the two are constantly striving toward greater efficiencies.

As Sea to Shore has grown, they have expanded their company by adding additional like-minded fleet mates accompanied by additional seafood offerings. All the while, they are staying true to the mission – To bring truly traceable seafood to the marketplace. The goal is to have every piece of fish sold on grocery store shelves, be able to be traced back to the hardworking fishermen (and women) who catch it. Every piece of seafood is still processed onboard the vessel, staying true to their superior quality expectations. They believe in supporting and paying above market price for the seafood they source, helping generate more income for their fishermen cohorts.

Thank you for navigating the waves with Chelsea and Pete on their Alaskan seafood voyage!
