Q: Which products do you sell to Sea to Shore Seafood?
A: I sell all salmon species to Sea to Shore Seafood.
Q: Can you share fun facts about your Vessel name?
A: The Ginny Sue was named after a family member of the previous owner. She has been a reliable family boat; Shannon’s first, Chelsea’s First, Matt’s First.
Q: How did you get started in fishing? How long have you been commercially fishing? Any family history in commercial fishing?
A: I married into commercial fishing and have been fishing for eight years. I was a deckhand for my wife for four years and now I am a captain (by the good graces of my dear wife).
Q: What sustainable fishing practices/gear types do you use? What is your crew size for these fisheries?
A: I use a Southeast drift gillnet, one deckhand only - or solo.
Q: What do you love most about life on the water?
A: The infinitely variable textures, moods, and colors of water as influenced by the tides and atmospheric conditions. All set against an incredible backdrop of mountains, islands, shorelines and primeval forests.
Q: What is your favorite type of fish to catch or favorite method of fishing and why?
A: Probably Coho, they’re the purest silver color you could ever find, caught in the fall, close to home, at a slightly slower pace.
Q: What is your favorite fish or seafood to eat and why?
A: I love sushi and salmon makes great sushi.
Q: What is your biggest takeaway from your time spent on the water?
A: I am grateful for my life and everything that I have and that my office is the incredibly beautiful wilderness of Southeast Alaska!
